Jane Austen Festival Australia 2014

This was my third time attending Jane Austen Festival Australia (JAFA). I enjoyed the time away and escaped to a beautiful past.

On Thursday, I packed all my gear and headed to the airport. My check-in luggage was spot on, exactly 23 kgs. My luggage also included my Super Amanda Jane smocking pleater. This time I gave a workshop on how to use a smocking pleater to make mushroom pleated trim. I travelled with trinnyt and we stayed at Canberra University House, the venue for JAFA. We were greeted by sewaddicted at the University House and she took us to our room to settle in. We quickly went out to explore and locate the nearest supermarket to stock up on supplies. Then it was time to attend the registraion and welcome night.

Friday, I attended couple of classes: Regency walking bonnet, Regency reticule. In between, we enjoyed a lovely lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea. I got a chance to make some purchases at the festival stalls where I bought lots of feathers and couple of straw hats. I also bought an evening reticule to match with my ballgown.

My workshop was on Friday afternoon. Participants were provided with a piece of trim 3 meter length and 10 cm width already pleated. At the workshop, I showed them how to use smocking pleater to pleat the trim and to set the pleat. All in all it was well received. I was delighted that trinnyt and sewaddicted attended my workshop.

Friday night was variety night and dinner. Food was delicious. It was a relaxing night and with the hotel room at the same venue, it was such a luxury to stay late and walked back to the room.

Saturday, I attended more classes: Jane Austen Pelisse, Regency trims, Regency day cap. In the afternoon, I did a dance practice to prepare for the dances at the ball that night. Saturday night at the ball, I was able to handle the first couple of dances, well done me!

I had a wonderful time at JAFA 2014 and looking forward to next year.
